Biggest economic development ever announced for Waco

Sanderson Farms, a Mississippi-based company, excited local leaders with news today it will spend $60 million to build a poultry-processing plant and hatchery near Texas State Technical College in Waco.

The two facilities will employ 1,300 people between them, which is more than any new Waco company has ever employed, said Bob Davis, chairman of the Greater Waco Chamber of Commerce.

Plans include a 170,000 sq ft chicken-processing plant at $50.5 million that will employ 1,175 people and a 65,000 sq ft hatchery at $11.5 million to employ 115.-Mike Copeland and J.B. Smith, Waco Tribune-Herald
